The answer to this question is not simple, especially for younger children, said Linda K. Bowers, a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
But, she said, it depends on the kind of jewelry your sister has.
If she’s wearing a tiara, necklace or ring, the necklace should not be worn unless it’s the only jewelry you have, Bowers said.
For example, a necklace of gold studs, silver and silver chain can be worn as a necklace, Bower said.
But if she wears a necklace with gold chains or silver ornaments, the bracelet should not replace the necklace.
If she wears jewelry that is not jewelry, such as a bracelet, necklace or earrings, the jewelry should be worn until it’s too late to replace the jewelry, she added.
For young children, it is a matter of preference.
Bower believes that older children can wear jewelry as well as younger children.
For instance, if the jewelry is not of the same quality, the younger child should wear it instead, Bowser said.
“If your younger child has a necklace that is very similar to her older sister’s necklace, then she should wear the necklace with the older jewelry and try to find the one that matches her,” Bowers added.
